6 Year Old Boy Loves His Vacuum Cleaners!
The newest addition to Travis Chambers’ vacuum cleaner museum isn’t a Hoover. But it’s mighty special, and the 6-year-old found it practically in his own backyard. It’s a 1914 Reeves suction vacuum. No motor, just a pump.
Travis pulls, then pushes the pump handle and drags the cleaner over the carpet. Then he flips it over to show that the machine doesn’t get too much suction, but it works. The kindergarten student loves the latest addition, found in an antiques store on Kent Avenue NE a few miles from his family’s home on Rutgers Street NW.
The Reeves is there with Travis’ crumb sweeper — the first cleaner he ever found in an antiques search — and the Bissell stand-up model with a wooden handle similar to a broom. Those machines are in the non-Hoover section of the museum in the Chamberses’ basement. It’s just a small corner.
