This is the story of how the Dyson DC17 Absolute Animal saved my life.
You see, for a guy who has a lot of allergies, I have entirely too many pets.
-Don’t get me wrong, I love animals-
It’s just that they make my eyes waters and my skin itch, which is why I find it odd that I have two cats and a dog.

Sure, I could throw a bunch of technical “lingo” at you, or go on and on about the Absolute Animals features like;
- the low reach tool, designed to save you from bending
- the carpet care kit or the Mini Turbine Head
- but what really matters here is pet hair!
With its 1400 watt motor and Level 3 Root Cyclone™ technology, the DC17 picks up hair and even microscopic dander with ease, making it a dream come true for allergy sufferers and vacuum enthusiasts alike.
The Dyson line is known for making quality products and the DC17 Absolute Animal is no exception. The HEPA filter is a godsend and, like most of the Dyson products, is a lifetime filter, meaning you won’t be stuck having to buy replacements.

The Dyson DC17 is made of ABS and polycarbonate, which is what they use to make crash helmets! It weighs 20.56 lbs. and has a 35 ft. cord, making its maximum reach a whopping 51 ft.
Like most Dysons, it comes with a 5-year limited warranty.
Have a mentioned the Quick-draw Telescope Reach™ wand? It’s a great way to tackle stairs, furniture and some harder to reach places. It has a 1400 watt motor that generates 220 air watts of constant suction. The bagless, easy-to-empty bin holds 0.66 gallons of debris.
Pros: What can I say? It’s a Dyson. That means it’s tough, has tremendously powerful and constants suction, and is easy to use. Plus, this model was designed to tackle homes with pets. Allergy sufferers will love the Lifetime HEPA filter and the clean exhaust air. In fact, like all Dyson uprights, it has been certified asthma friendly® according to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America.
In the end, it all comes down to what you want. If you’re just looking for something cheap, go for it.
You just have to be prepared for the usual clumsy controls, fluctuating suction and difficult to change bags.
