Dyson DC21 Stowaway Canister Vacuum Cleaner

When it comes to vacuums, the name Dyson carries a lot of weight. Sure, we’ve seen the commercials, and the gentleman’s accent alone is rather convincing, but the proof is in the pudding, right? What makes the Dyson brand something to be reckoned with is the fact that they engineer quality vacuums and build them with quality materials. The Dyson DC21 Stowaway Canister is certainly no exception. With its Root12Cyclone technology, the DC21 creates a cyclone of (high-speed) air. As you vacuum, all the dust and debris get tossed out of the airflow and collected in the bin. Because it doesn’t need a filter or bag for the particulates, this Dyson doesn’t clog or lose any suction. The result is that it picks up far more dirt that your average vacuum.

I’m a guy that’s very hard on everything. I can break a cell phone within a week after its purchase. My laptop looks like I use it to drive rivets on a construction site. This has made me quite particular about the “toughness” and power of the products I buy. The DC21 Stowaway Canister has all that in spades. It’s made from ABS and polycarbonate. That’s the stuff they use to make motorcycle helmets and such. Steering this baby is effortless due to its motorized ball-style joint, yet you can feel just how powerful it is as you glide it over the carpet. Power brushes refresh the fibers of your carpet. Don’t want to use them? No problem. Just use the foot control: no bending required! The onboard tools give you rapid access to all your accessories and, best of all, the Dyson DC21 is quiet. No more missed phone calls due those old uprights that sound like Armageddon. Better still, this Dyson has Lifetime HEPA filtration and clean exhaust.

The DC21 comes with a hard floor tool and an easy-to-empty Clear Bin canister. With 220 air watts of suction power and its ergonomic design, it is a breeze to handle. Its ABS and polycarbonate body makes it one of the tougher vacuums in its class. This Dyson has a 16.4’ cord (giving it a maximum reach of 28.3’) and comes with a 5-year limited warranty.

As with most things in life, the Dyson DC21 Stowaway Canister has its pros and cons. On the pro side, you have a vacuum with some serious suction power, an innovative design and one of the toughest chassis in the business. Its clean exhaust system expels air with up to 150 times less bacteria and mold that the air we breath. Wow. With its effortless steering, the DC21 is as easy to use as it is cool to look at.

As for cons, this Dyson has a shorter cord than I would prefer, but the overall reach is decent. There is no light on the DC21, so you’ll want to vacuum with the lights on. I don’t know about you, but I can never really see that well with the vacuum cleaner lights anyway, so the light isn’t that much of a loss.

When it comes to vacuums, the two things that mean the most are suction power and maneuverability. The Dyson DC21 Stowaway Canister is a champion in both arenas, making short and easy work your messes. I know, I know… Dyson’s aren’t inexpensive, but you have to look at it as an investment. You can go through 2 or 3 other vacuums that don’t clean as well and are bears to push around, or you can pay a bit more and buy the Dyson. With its rugged construction, it will last you a long time and get the job done for you with each and every use.
